Knit, Natter & Sew Group.

The St Andrew’s ‘Knit, Natter and Sew Group’ commenced in 2007. It has a twofold aim for the ladies of the village – 1) to get to know one another and 2) to make hats, mitts, gloves, scarves, puppets and bags for the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ annual shoebox appeal.

Over the last two years our membership has grown considerably as has the beautiful knitware that the ladies have produced. The shoebox centre was originally at Clare but out grew its location and had to move to a warehouse kindly donated in Bulmer.

Last year (2009) we sent almost 13,000 boxes to children in need throughout Belarus. Several of our ladies gave up their spare time to assist at the warehouse and sincere thanks to all of them.

Our group always welcomes newcomers and if you can’t knit or sew, we will help you!

We meet monthly for just two hours and you will always find the dates posted in the ‘Events’ page. So if you are interested, want to donate materials, or just want to know more, please call Chris Persinger on 01787 237522 for further details.

It has been suggested that a prayer page be opened. This will be for anyone wishing to include anyone in our prayers at any service. You may have worries and fears you would like others to join in to pray for.

Historical overviews of Great Yeldham church and Little Yeldham church have been added to the site, with kind permission from John Fitch who has allowed us to quote from A Select Guide to Essex Churches And Chapels by members of the Friends of Essex Churches which he edited.

The Activation Trust

For a while now the Upper Colne Parishes have been supporting the work of the Activation Trust. The Trust assists children of secondary school age in West Kenya in furthering their education. The benefice is funding a student whose name is Jonathan Oloo Wambi (aged 13) and other students are sponsored by individuals. Nearly all the students are orphans. Primary education in Kenya is quite good but secondary education is rare, especially for girls. By helping Jonathan, who wants to be a doctor, we can make a difference not only to his life but to many where he will live and work.
